Ken Pollard
Stumbled across this thru Seth Goodin's blog today, though without this context. A very nice collection of vintage advertisements on any category, but I typed in 'violin' and was happy. http://www.vintageadbrowser.com/search?q=violin Just for fun. MANFIO
Michael Tree`s main instrument is the viola today, but he is a violinist too.
Stephen Fine
Wow. He's young there. How young was he when he gave up his dad's name?

IBK
Wow. He's young there. How young was he when he gave up his dad's name? I think that it was about the time he went to Curtis Institute
Ron MacDonald
I think that's right and, if I recall correctly, it was Zimbalist who suggested the change of name.

Shirl
[Lymond - thanks so much for this post! I'm an avid reader of "old magazines," and so I eat this stuff up. What really was evident that there have been so many, many violinists with obviously a lot of talent, and so few have become "household names." All that work, and now forgotten. So many women, also, in the '30s and '40s, that perhaps many of us have never heard of. (I'm learning more and more about earlier women players.) Thanks again! Rokovak
I wholeheartedly concur. Ripping it up while you're piss drunk makes for some great times!
Omobono
Yes, quaint to see fiddles associated with ads for liquor and motor vehicles, etc. Not a bad-looking Strad model fiddle at that!
