musical notation question

Sometimes I see a chord (and sometimes a double stop) with [ written to the left side of it. Does this require I play the chord in a special way? Does it imply divisi?

(I'm not referring to the appeggio squiggle. :))

Thanks!

It means to play the notes together. It is usually used to indicate non-divisi playing of such marked notes.
