zefir68 Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 http://cgi.cafr.ebay.ca/A-VERY-FINE-GUARNE...%3A1|240%3A1318 It didn't work in the USA so France is next?
troutabout Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 "Item must be returned within three days". Right. From France. Oh darn.
doctahg Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 "...the very finest Cremonese violin ever made by mortal man." Oh my.
DiemViolins Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 "........This instrument is in original condition............" The maker was not very skilled in varnishing those days.
Marie Brown Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 Obviously it's humor. If you doubt, try staring at the text for a few seconds. Your innate verbiosiola will quickly transmogrify the words into their true meaning. This is the second best laugh I've had so far today.
zefir68 Posted January 22, 2009 Author Report Posted January 22, 2009 Can't resist. Will you please share the top ranking laugh today? Obviously it's humor. If you doubt, try staring at the text for a few seconds. Your innate verbiosiola will quickly transmogrify the words into their true meaning. This is the second best laugh I've had so far today.
Marie Brown Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 My good friend, the freelance contracting maven of eastern Missouri, has a her e-mail inbox jammed to capacity. so far so funny
La Folia Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 "This instrument is in original condition and in excellent preservation." You laugh. Since it doesn't have a scroll graft, and it looks crudely air-brushed with an improbably symmetrical "wear pattern", it just might be in original condition.
RWOlson Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 Uh... isn't double purfling a Maggini or Stainer thing? And it's nice to see that low-level German factory makers rediscovered the secret to the Cremonese varnish. 3.5 mil? Why, I'd pay 2 million just for that beautiful scroll, which still has the original pegs.

A sure sign of a cheesy factory instrument: the makers couldn't be hedgehogged at all to get the interlacings right. erm...that's our friend ISOC, isn't it? Perhaps we shouldn't mock.
Jeffrey Holmes Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 erm...that's our friend ISOC, isn't it? Yes, I'm afraid it appears to be... words escape me at the moment... thank goodness.
Fellow Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 http://cgi.cafr.ebay.ca/A-VERY-FINE-GUARNE...%3A1|240%3A1318It didn't work in the USA so France is next? ++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.5 million dollars ? It is a lot money. Who can afford it? I know some violinists are good enough to play a Guarneri. Hardly any of them can make good money. They are happy with their copies of Guarneri. Nothing original, or Cremonese. It is a tough sell, no matter how you look at it. I would not so envy.
apartmentluthier Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 Is there some forum function that can scan for "ISOC" and do an auto-thread-lock?
