Guy_Gallo Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 Any hyperlink from the old board software has the following form: [url="http://www.maestronet.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=4&threadid=248749"]Text Description[/url} a link in the new software has the form: [url="http://www.maestronet.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=248749"]Text Description[/url} (note: last bracket changed to curly brace for legibility) So it would seem that the database needs a search and replace for threadid= and replace with showtopic= and a search for messageview.cfm?catid=4& and replace with index.php?
Guy_Gallo Posted May 24, 2008 Author Report Posted May 24, 2008 One of the problems presented by trying to fix inter thread links in old messages is that when you click edit, you are presented, not with simple text/BBCode (as you would with a new message) but with HTML code. For instance, a message I wanted to fix in my references thread looks like this: Going through some old threads I came upon this one: <BR> <BR><a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.maestronet.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=4&threadid=185965">split wood - evidence of use by old masters</a> <BR> <BR>It has some nice illustrations/explanations of run-off. I thought it should be made more readily available with a link here in this reference thread. So to fix this link, I have to edit it completely so that it finally looks like: Going through some old threads I came upon this one: [url="http://www.maestronet.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=185965"]split wood - evidence of use by old masters[/url} It has some nice illustrations/explanations of run-off. I thought it should be made more readily available with a link here in this reference thread.
ghunt Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 That's correct Guy. I'm working on a way to automate the image switching (<img to , etc), but some old posts will need to be edited.
ghunt Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Links to old threads will work automatically now. Old attachments are next on the list.
Brad H Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 That is great news! Thank you! And thanks also to Guy for his efforts to re-establish connections to our buried gems.
