Brad Dorsey Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Mine looks messy, but I can find everything.
priya Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Doesn't anyone make bows nowadays? http://img.villagephotos.com/p...5-1/932239/workman.jpg
Steve Selin Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 i have tried to paste the photo in so it loads automatically, but that isn't working. if anyone knows why that is, please let me know. so, i have attached it below. thanks, steve
Seth_Leigh Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Brad, while the topic of tool chests is current, why don't you make everyone jealous with a shot of those really nice storage chests you have?
edi malinaric Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Hello Manfio - one plane on its side and one on its sole Tsk Tsk. I also like the padding on the one chisel - which gives me the opportunity to show the before-and-after chisel handle (thanks Michael) that I made in preparation for some cello plate carving that is in my very near future.
Dean_Lapinel Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Edi, How you lay down your plane is probably safer sole down despite the myth that still persists. Sole exposed can be struck by another object on the side. Bottom line though, if you are careful, you can leave them anyway you want. Dean
M_A_T_T Posted February 24, 2007 Author Report Posted February 24, 2007 quote: Originally posted by: Dean_Lapinel Sole exposed can be struck by another object on the side. I've had this happen. I recently bought 'plane sacks' to keep my planes in, and when I use them I lay the sack on my bench and lay the plane sole down on the sack.
edi malinaric Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Good point Dean - although it's going to mean that my father will be spinning in his grave. He was pretty strong about planes-on-sides. I'll pick up on Matt's idea of a plane sack - make a leather/cork faced board for the bench - for the placing down of sharp edged tools while working. ... and a pic of my near-to-completion mould. Can't wait to get the last coat of varnish applied and the business of making chips. cheers edi

Seth_Leigh Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 I see Apartmentluthier's Ikea storage chests. I've got one built so far, several more still in kit form. I saw some in Michael's shot of his new workspace, being used by his new shopmates. How many more Ikea chest users are there? I wonder if these Ikea chests are the most-used tool and parts chests used in luthierdom?
Tim McTigue Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 quote: Originally posted by: Wolfjk I found it difficult to post Photos. have to edit my post click on the photo link, when it comes up, copy the URL and paste it betweenthe image tags [/img] at the back.If anyone knows a better methode please tell us! What I do, is while I'm composing my message, I click on "Attach File(s)" and upload any pictures I want to display, but here's the method - you'll notice that all of the pictures you've ever uploaded show up in the attachments window. So when I've done the "browse" thing, and clicked on "upload file" to upload my picture(s), I just click on "close window" and go back to editing my message. I include the tags, and between them I put the URL of the picture I want to show. The URL is particular, and looks like "...maestronet.com/forums/attachments/picturefile.jpg" Then before I click the "Reply to Topic" button, I click "Preview" just to make sure I haven't made a mistake.
MANFIO Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 Now my 6 years old "garzone di bottega" Pierino is allways on the workshop... he is allowed to use all my handtools, to discover how to use them, to respect them, and to get the violin making virus... This is the system my father used with me, and it works... But now the mess has increased... I have to look for the tools in my bench and in Pierino's bench too... But I'm a patient guy...
Michael_Molnar Posted February 24, 2007 Report Posted February 24, 2007 quote: Originally posted by: M_A_T_T True, but the Gerstner chests LOOK COOL! . I found their website, I like the GI-B532. Gerstner International Thanks, MATT. I have a Model 040 that seems ancient. It's missing a phenolic (?) button that is no longer available. Mike
Weasel Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 Untidy shop? You guys are amateur at that. Try this one for size. No, it's not my shop and no, it's not me. But it IS truly impressive.
MANFIO Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 What we see as disorder may be an organized place for the shop's owner. Disorder is the order we don't want.
Lance Bellamy Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 Here are some photos of my new shop which I opened in September 2006. Dean_Lapinel Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 Very nice looking shop Lance. Haven't seen your posts for some time. Buried in work? Dean
MANFIO Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 Yes, congratulations on your new shop Lance!!!
Michael_Molnar Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 Lance, Great photos and a VERY nice shop and store.
matthew tucker Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 I want to know what's in the paté dish on the bench?
Michael Darnton Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 The three shops of the guys where I don't quite work anymore: Bernard Gutterman: Chris Moore (and lots of Ikea): Eric Swanson:
Seth_Leigh Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 Wow, Michael, I think in every single workshop that you posted a pic of, there's been a Gerstner (or similar) toolbox, as well as in some of them the Ikea. Those workshop spaces are pretty cool actually, especially Eric's corner office. And he's got a freaking lathe! Awesome!
nola Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 yeah, what do you (/does he) do with the lathe?
