Pizz Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 Hello! I have a question for all of you. A few months ago I stumbled on a website that had a java applet that helped with note reading by spitting out random notes on the staff and you had to name them as quickly as possible. The duration of each trail run was 300 seconds and afterwards it would tell you how many notes you completed, how many errors you had, your score as a percentage, and the average time it took you to name each note. While it may not be as effective as sightreading a piece of music, it certainly helped improve my note recognition, and it was a great way to kill time at work. Does anybody know where this (or something similar) can be found on the web?
stillnew Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 I have this one bookmarked: http://www.musictheory.net/trainers/html/id82_en.html It has been an aid to theory and note name recognition, but I wouldn't think it would help with sightreading.
Option1 Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 You could try this one: ">http://www.musictheory.net/tra...html/id82_en.html EDIT: Whoops, didn't even realise the URL was the same as the one stillnew posted until afterwards. Doh! Neil
Steve_W Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 How about this: http://musicorum.apinc.org/article35.html . This applet has several options: it can accept input from a piano keyboard, or using a mouse you can input either by clicking the note on a keyboard or the note name, and it can run with sound or silently. -Steve
stillnew Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 Steve, is it just my computer, or its settings, or is that site very slow to load up at any point for anyone?
Steve_W Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 It's slower tonight than it was yesterday but still loaded in about 20 seconds for me just now (eMac, Firefox 1.5, cable modem). -Steve
Pizz Posted July 16, 2006 Author Report Posted July 16, 2006 Thanks for the links. They're both good.
