vibration on the bow?

I recently realized than some buzzing sound may come from the bow. It looks that bow itself also vibrates, especially when the wood of the bow is very close to or sometimes touches the strings. I am not sure wether this is a problem for a bow. I would appreciate any comments.

Hi.

Everything has what is known as natural frequency, or the point at which it vibrates. If the bow vibrates only on a certain note, then this note would be its natural pitch. Opera singers can shatter glass by making it vibrate at the natural frequency. Low octives would only make it vibrate slightly, but the very high octive of the pitch will shatter it.

The buzzing sound could be coming from a loose or broken hair somewhere in the bow. Check by taking the frog off and gently shake the hair or comb through it with a fine comb. Or you could have a rosin chip in the hair.

The bow will more than likely vibrate when playing on the stick. It won't hurt the bow quickly, but ove time it may damage the bow.

If it's not something it the hair, have it checked out.

Good Luck,

Ben
