greg
Is anyone familiar with or know of any available software which teaches a beginner the basics of playing violin? Or, if not, what would you recommend in terms of the best book out there? Post or email. Thank you.

Mel bay publications has a book called Beginning Fiddle solos.it comes with a cd and the music is fingered. Stacy Philips play on the cd and narrates it .It has some old time as well as a few celtic songs. Any music store should be able to get it or try their web : www.melbay.com
janieb
:Do yourself a favor - find a teacher. It costs a bit more than buying a book, but you get so much more. A teacher will teach you proper technique from the beginning. A teacher will spot bad habits forming before they become ingrained and will help you overcome them. A teacher can also make sure the music you are playing is appropriate for your ability level. You will progress farther and faster with a teacher. You can post your town on this board, and probably someone can give you the name of teachers in your locale.
