new project: violin striping

I just got an instrument that was a violin in the white, untill

it was varnished some years ago. The wood however is out-standing, but

the scroll is a piece of sh--, and the "f" holes are too narrow.

The varnish was applied too thin with heavy coats so that it ran

and dripped all over the place. None-the-less it could be a good

student violin.

Is any one interested in seeing a violin stripped, and then the steps

taken to restore a good finish ??

Steve,

I am not sure what you are trying to say or what you intend to do , but if it is to share your experience and the lesson(s) learned from it - I am all for it . So "strip" away !

Hello,

I found that stripping was a whole lot of hand scraping with a plastic ruler. It took a long time. I was advised to use a non-toxic stripper, and considering how much I got on myself and things other than my viola, it was a good thing! What are you planning to use? I used Safest Stripper by 3M, but I was told one could use Citri-Strip too (but I didn't find any.) I am still waiting for varnish to arrive and have not learned yet what to do next. I could use an example.
