Hi.

With the information you have given I can't really give you a price range. It all depends on what you want. You can get a nice violin for about $700. The violin that I play was only $650 and it sounds great. When looking for a violin I'd stay away from general music stores, or school band stores. Also stay away from the cheaper Chinese instruments, but you could consider some of the nicer handmade Chinese violins.

What ever you choose be sure that you like the sound. Nothing will make you want to quit more than a bad sounding violin.

Good Luck,

Ben

Here is a similar discussion that someone else posted about finding a good violin for not too much money. Maybe this will help you.

I also am a beginner, and recently purchased a new violin.. I paid right at $600 for mine, which is a student violin, and they range up from there to the Strads etc...*S* Depending on the size of the city you live in, it may be hard to find a shop which sells violins.. I live in Little Rock, AR and found only one store which sells them. You can also find them for sell online here, and you might try www.ebay.com which lets you buy auction style... Good luck, and god bless you too...

HI CAN YOU RECOMEND A BRAND FOR THE CHILD'S FIRST VIOLIN SHE NEEDS THE 1/2 SIZE PER TEACHER SHE RECOMENDS A INEXPENSIVE MODEL FOR $155 SAYS THE SOUND IS PRETTY GOOD. HA. I WANT THE INSTRUMENT TO SOUND GREAT FOR HER TO HEAR THE TRUE SOUNDS. I'M NOT SURE WHAT BRAND WILL BRING THE QUALITY THAT I AM LOOKING FOR. I CAN SPEND 300- 500 . THE MUSIC STORES PROMOTE INSTRUMENTS FROM 150 TO 600. I CAN'T JUST GO ON THEIR WORD WHAT IS FAIR- GOOD OR EXCELLENT. CAN YOU SUGGEST THREE POSSIBLE BRANDS AND NUMBER? HELP!!
