Fellow Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 Hi All, I cannot help myself of thinking that in the old days, some rich folks (men) in China , they enjoyed to show off their bird cages and their birds in public daily gatherting. Their birds sang (like violins), their cages (work of arts, like the instrument you folks are making) Is there similarity of these two cultures? Just for your thought. They spent money on their cageS like we spent money on our luxsury cars today. (Status symbols) Today vilinists are pretty consistent in playings (singing) but the birds were of no consistance to speak of. It presents a great challenge of thier competitions. /yuen/
sweetmusic Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 You just answered your own question...in North America, it's all about your car.
guta Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 Hi Yuen- Chinese culture- ancient and refined. U.S. culture- much younger and developing quickly. The bird cage story- an amazing image of beauty and love of craftsmanship and nature. The similarity- our ongoing search for beauty is the story of man's journey towards the light. Many thanks, Larry.
COB3 Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 Or his inborn desire to show himself better than the next guy-- whether in Bird cages, Boxing, or BMWs. We are never without a contest, and resultant status, or lack thereof. (BTW, I drive a 22-year-old car, and only my chickens are caged--or fenced, really--no status here, I guess.)
guta Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 You drive a classic car, and the chickens are pedigreed! Allright! Are the fences handmade?
COB3 Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 1983 Toyota Tercel 4WD wagon (327K miles), Mixed-breed chickens (some lay brown eggs; some green--those have some aracana in them), old, rusty wire fence. Sorry...:-) BTW--know why a chicken coop only has two doors? If it had four, it would be a chicken sedan. :-)
miles Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 >1983 Toyota Tercel 4WD wagon (327K miles) Wow! What have you done with your car to "chicken" out that mileage?
Fellow Posted August 2, 2005 Author Report Posted August 2, 2005 I heard a story that I don't know it was true or not. Someone drove a Mercedes over a millioin miles, the manufacturer, Mercedes rewarded him a brand new Mercedes.I don't if Toyota has same policy. Something worths to look into. /yuen/
Wound_Gut Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 I know of someone whose Toyota van did the million (but we measure it in kilometres here, so the distance is actually much less). Anyway, I don't think he got a new Toyota out of it...just a pretty picture to hang from the wall.
COB3 Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 I can't claim credit-- the poor thing has been sadly abused-- I have loaded it with everything imaginable, in the back, on the roof, out the windows...and seldom remember to change the oil (mea culpa maxima). It must just be that Toyotas are tough little birds. It won't go a million--I'll be lucky to make 400K.
