Option1 Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...=38108&rd=1 C'mon you can afford it. After all only $500,000.00 to open and just look at what you get! Neil
Jimbow Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 Neil, Should I proxy bid now or would it be better to snipe at the last few seconds? Will you be bidding too? My gosh, I don't know what to do. Help me out here!
jackc Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 Everyone knows that Elbert Robinson is one of the greatest luthiers ever to come out of the violin making mecca of Burnt Stump Oklahoma. PKnorr is going to get this on for sure...
Wound_Gut Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 Does it also come with Colonel Sander's secret recipe of 11 different herbs and spices?
apartmentluthier Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 So you the herbs and spices IN the varnish . . ahhhhhh
Option1 Posted July 27, 2005 Author Report Posted July 27, 2005 Quote: Neil, Should I proxy bid now or would it be better to snipe at the last few seconds? Will you be bidding too? My gosh, I don't know what to do. Help me out here! Oh, I'd get in early, beat the rush and all. Especially since it's now been rumoured that the big players will be out for this one. In fact if I were a betting man, and I am (see below as this explains the figures), I'd be willing to lay money (if I had any) that makers like Tony Stradyvarious and Joey "De Jeezzus" Guanori will be after this one just to keep their vital secrets safe. I'd like to bid on it, but I could only scrape up $499,999.99 and unfortunately $499,999.98 of that was in used bottle tops. [Homer]MMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmm, herbs and spices... [/Homer] Neil
andante Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 I love this kind of jokes... they break my routine up.
Skreechee Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 The woodchip wallpaper is a suitable background to what looks like a bit of a duffer. And in the scroll picture is there a subtle hint that the varnish may contain Helium?
Fellow Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 If you are serious, I give you a dollar and a greeting : "congratulation" Take a few pictures of the winner to capture the moment of. joy that will last for a life time. Have you thought about that? Of course, you cannot be kidding or $500,000.99 will be gone with my dollar. I know I am serioud of my offer. /yuen/
Option1 Posted July 27, 2005 Author Report Posted July 27, 2005 Yuen, just so we're clear; I'm not the seller. It's just one I spotted when looking the other day and thought it would amuse people here. Neil
Jimbow Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 Well, it may be clear to you Neal, but I'm not at all sure about Yuen. I am hereby officially backing out of this bidding war! I say let Yuen buy it if he wants it so darn bad! ( he already is hoarding 6 or 8 extra fiddles in his closet, but what's one more.) Yuen, You go ahead and bid and don't worry about me -it's all yours to buy or not! .... I'm out of it! It's all between you and PKnorr now! I hope you will be very happy with the violin and its secret varnish! No hard feelings! $500,000 before payday would be a bit of a 'stretch' for me anyway, so it's just as well! ( All in fun, of course.)
Fellow Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 Thank you for your kindness not thinking that I am the seller. You know I am kidding a lot. (Just to get a laugh or two) I think PKnorr will win. (No hard feeling from me) Seriouly speaking, most buyers this day are looking for low price violins. A violin which is priced over $1000 is not a hot item. /yuen/
PhilG Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 I came across that eBay auction and I was actually looking up who the heck Elbert Robinson is when I found this forum on Google. Of course, first I found out that "Elbert Robinson is one of the greatest luthiers ever to come out of the violin making mecca of Burnt Stump Oklahoma". That was the first hit on Google. And the only one regarding Elbert Robinson. I can only imagine what would turn up if I used Excite or some other search engine. I hope he gets a bid by another zero and then has to file a NPB report. Someone should ask the seller about a return policy - if he is offering one.
bean_fidhleir Posted August 7, 2005 Report Posted August 7, 2005 I never know what to think about people who do such ads. They're very naive, for sure, to think that anyone would offer that much. But are they naive-but-honest, or naively crooked?
