violin1000
Is anybody familiar with their quality ,sound and price range? Thanks!
andrew weinstein
Pistuccis, like most Neapolitan violins after Gagliano and Ventapane are mostly labeled Gagliano or Ventapane. There is a range of quality, and correspondingly a range of price, I'd say 40 -60,000 for one in very good condition.
ornati
Is there something I'm missing about Ventapane? I've tried two (admittedly a small sample) and thought that both were terrible in sound and in craftsmanship.
andrew weinstein
There is certainly a wide range of quality in Ventapanes, ranging from the eqivalent to a mid range Gagliano to something quite simple. Most of the better ones look quite similar to Antonio, Joannes or Raffaele Gagliano, the scroll often being the best clue in telling them apart. They are not all of high quality as you'd find in a maker like Ornati.
