pahdah_hound
It looks like a baby bass. I like it in general. It is not as disturbing as many wierd or non traditional string instruments tend to be. jesse
ornati
Looks like it was inspired by Joe Curtain's Evia
T_Rocca
I think it is pretty interesting to have if you got some spare money for toys. Personally I think it is too much like an Chinese instrument
maestramusica
It's shaped more like an old viol da gamba than a modern viola. Which IS pretty the shape retained by the upright String Bass.
Soundboot
Here is the likely inspiration: http://www.josephcurtinstudios.com/innovat...roject_evia.htm I really like this shape. I would have bought one of these violas if I hadn't just bought my guitar shaped viola. Some of us like these unconventional instruments! One day I hope to have a violin shaped like this, I think it's a great new shape for the 21st century. Joseph Curtin thinks it works for sound too so I respect his opinion. Incidentally, I saw an advert in Strings magazine for Curtin's Evia. If anybody is interested then he is now taking orders. He does pure wood or carbon fiber composite. I appreciate his work. Omobono
There is another American maker with a Japanese name (Iluiki? Iyuiki?) who makes violas with a viola d'amore look and whose work seemed well respected.
