maestramusica Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Whaddaya think? Original Baroque or not? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...832720&rd=1 Yeah- I know, if I discuss it here, someone will surely snipe it out from under me, but chances are I can't get it anyway, so I might as well learn something from your opinions.
GlennYorkPA Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Not from that date. The lack of a baroque neck might be a clue.
Steve R. Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Decent looking violin. I'm not sure why they would call it baroque though either. For a violin made by a german speaker, it looks surprisingly UN-Stainer like for the age also. "Money order or cashier checks only" on all the items from this seller, means no recourse...
Michael Darnton Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 I think the right terms is "transitional", or "classical", not baroque.
maestramusica Posted March 30, 2005 Author Report Posted March 30, 2005 My interest was dual- A) that the seller referred to it as "Barock" (My favorite period has always been the Baroque) that it looked like a decent fiddle regardless of age, but Glenn, I havne't a clue as to why I didin't actually read the date- DUUUUUHHHHH!!! Too busy looking at pictures to read the words, etc I guess. silly me! What books should I be reading to be able to better distinguish between Italian, French, and German fiddles? I obviously have far less of a clue than I thought. Where can I learn something about the distinct regional and historical characteristics? Norma
