racerex
I have two bridges for my violin, one is evenly rounded across the top and the other is higher on the left side and slopes downward on the right. Is there an advantage (for playing or sound) or disadvantage to using either one?
DougP
Bridges are usually cut to give less string clearance at the fingerboard on the A and E side. Makes playing the A and E easier. The bridge needs to match the fingerboard extension. Some fingerboards are lower on the E side, and some warp downward. I would install the bridges and see which, if either, gives the best match with the fingerboard. A common string height is 5mm on the G and D, 3mm on the A and E. A mm less with steel strings.
