What's everyone playing these days?

Being new to this site I'm extremely curious to know what everyone is playing these days. Not your complete repertoire if that's too much information to share, just your current piece/s. As I mentioned in another post, being 2 yrs new to the violin I've only got as far as Suzuki 2 and some Wohlfarth. Just wondering after applying bow to string for this long and with remarkably poor intonation , what can I look forward to?

I've been playing for six-ish(?) years, and I'm working on the Wieniawski d minor concerto, the Praeludium and Allegro, the Bach d minor partita, Lalo Symphonie Espagnol, and the finger-sickening Fiorillo etudes. Oh, and Flesch (did I spell that right?) scales.

I liked Wohlfarht. I didn't spell that right. Hmm. Kreutser's interesting. But Fiorillo's pretty cool.

Wohlfahrt? Ha. Being one of those late adult starters, I get to ignore all the stuff that is just too much trouble... Instead, it sits on my kids' music stands (I can see that the book on my daughter's stand is upside down - she is ignoring it too, sigh).

Me: 2nd violin parts to Mzt Piano cto 17 & Marriage of Figaro Overture, Beethoven 7th. Working out a couple of 2nd parts to an engelska (dance) and wedding march from the Bäsk CD.

I'm playing Hindemith Sonata Op. 11/4 and Bach Cello Suite No. 4 arranged by Simon Rowland-Jones. My string quintet is playing the Dvorak String Quintet and Shostakovich No. 8.

Speaking of which, I've got a concert coming up on December 6 in Duncan Recital all at Shepherd, so for those of you in the Houston area (and anyone else who cares to travel to Houston) You're invited.

I played for 10 years, semi-quit for three years, and now have been back hacking at the old thing for over two years now.

Currently studying Lalo's Symphonie Espagnole, with Mendelssohn on the back burner. Fiorillo, Kreutzer and Flesch scales round out my daily regimen.

Musical instruments aren't the forgiving sort if your leave them for any extended period of time; to this day, I'm still sleeping on the couch, so to speak.

Amen!... it's nothing like riding a bike

I played for 15 years and left it alone for 10. It was supposed to be only 3 or so, but time got away! I don't think I have any repertoire I can still play well, so I'm having to dig out some stuff from the dark ages so my fingers can remember what they're supposed to do.

I'm working on Bach Partita II & III, Mendelssohn, Bruch, Brahms Hungarian Dances, and a whole lotta Kreutzer and Fiorillo.

Mainly concentrating on Britten's Lachrymae, I'll perform it for the first time on December 2nd - I'm not too confindent about it yet, but gotta start performing it sometime. Also Vieuxtemps' Capriccio in c minor (solo viola), and I should start with some Bach also... I have university auditions on May, where I'm playing Britten, and maybe Vieuxtemps or Bach.

With my quartet we are playing Borodin's 2nd quartet and Beethoven op18/4. Both are very much fun

Orchestra (Helsinki Strings - if you've heard of us I'll start to feel famous ): Sibelius The Lover suite, Nielsen Little Suite, Nordgren Concerto for strings, Mozart Violin concerto n.4 in D.

That's pretty much all, of course not counting quartet gig music and such. I've played for seven years now.

I've been working on the Vitali Chaconne and lots of very slow Kreutzer. I just switched teachers and when I was told that this is what I would be working on it felt kind of remedial, but I'm learning a ton about playing the violin and I guess if I'm learning then it's not too remedial. I also just finished playing for Pirates of Penzance, I'll get to do the Vivaldi Gloria in a few weeks, and I've been doing lots of orchestra and string ensemble playing. I love school!

Crazy Jane: The Shostakovich is fun, n'est pas? And the viola part could hardly be nicer.

Altistitar: my experience with Lachrymae was that the primary difficulties were related to the ear. Quite a number of intervals are hard to hear -- for me at least -- and the ear problems cannot be sidestepped by using easy, reliable fingerings. But it certainly is a fine piece. There is quite a fine recording of it, by the way, made by Bashmet and Richter in 1989, I believe.

I'm working (on my own, I'm a middle-aged amateur who's not taking lessons) on the first set from the Vaughn Williams Suite for viola. Those three pieces are not too hard, but the other two sets have a couple of pieces that are probably beyond me.

I also have to spend a fair amount of my practice time on my parts in one of the community orchestras I play in- the conductor likes to do pretty hard music and managed to find some even for the holiday concert (the stuff for the other orchestra's holiday concert is all fluff that doesn't need practicing.)

Playing for six years now: Dancla Air Varie, Bach Duo (2nd violin) Dm Concerto, Scales, Arpeggios, intonation, positions through 7th, and my favorite - about a dozen Irish Fiddling reels, jigs and hornpipes. Taking some jazz theory and jazz violin lessons right now. Play with my church worship team. All very enjoyable indeed. When all is quiet, Sunday afternoons, I sneak in my own enjoyment with runs through Gershwin's Porgy & Bess, Bernstein's West Side Story and some Duke Ellington compositions.

Christmas cometh - and so there will be a bunch of those songs coming up from now through the end of the year too.

Thanks again everyone for sharing - you guys(and gals) are terrific! You give me hope. There are some days(you know those days) when this instrument refuses to play itself

I've picked up some Christmas tunes that I can actually play(and enjoy), to alleviate some of the stress ole Wohlfahrt's causing. I've given myself 5 years to sound somewhat decent, before I decide to stick to piano.
