KillinKatz
Adam, thanks for bringing this up. I've lost track of so much since becoming a Dad and moving! I live in Ashford, CT, a nice little northeast hick town. I'm a network administrator for an insurance agency, and dabble with violin on the side. I love to play, but I am more fascinated with how stringed instruments are made and how they work, so I am teaching myself the art of repair and restoration. All of these extracurricular activities are on hold somewhat, because I have much more fun interacting with my 10-month-old. ~Dave PS: Those who have heard me play are well acquainted with the meaning behind my screen name. beakyboo
Well, I'm really new....just registered today! I'm Stephanie, I live in Perth on the West Coast of Australia and I'm a freelance piano accompanist and oboist. (Why is it that work gets busy for both instruments at exactly the same time of year?) My daughter's both play violin (7 and 4) and being involved in their learning has influenced my own music making incredibly! Like equating bow speed through a phrase on the violin to air speed through a phrase on an oboe.... Or watching a violinists' bowing to match their phrasing as I accompany a Mozart Violin Sonata!....As you can see I'm pretty excited about discovering this forum. It's really great to be here!! nertz
Neil here. Originally from Scotland but now living far south of the boarder, deep into Sasunnach country in sunny Cambridge with my wife and two daughters. I’ve been a lurker on maestronet for a few years now but only recently got around to partaking. My web site has the bits about what I do, my back ground and my training. administrator
Hi Neil. Pleased to meet you! Are your instruments available over here in the States? If so, who has them?
nertz
There was a dealer who bought some violins from me some years ago, but in the last few years I’ve been pretty busy coping with orders over here and in Europe………but I’m always open to interest! There are a few of my instruments being played in the US that I know of, the 1st violin and the viola in the Degas Quartet are mine, also I know of a violin in the Cleveland institute of music and a cello in the Indiana university school of music from me, and some others that I’ve lost track of. I lived in Mansfield for four years, almost on the border with Ashford. Ashford never seemed like a hick town to me, but, then again, I moved to Connecticut from South Carolina. Now I live in New Joisey near Princeton and work in Philadelphia.

racerex
This is so interesting. Just got back from a trip to the coast and I've missed so much already. I am also a network administrator at a government agency in the Pacific Northwest. I started taking violin lessons in my mid 30's and have been playing for 19 months now, and I play for a local chamber orchestra since my teacher is the conductor. I am totally obsessed with the violin. Anyway, I grew up with Speed Racer cartoons which I love but that screen name is usually taken so I chose Racerex (should be Racer X but that is usually taken too) who is Speed's brother. I would like to get the collection of Speed Racer cartoons on DVD someday (it's over $200 so I'm waiting).
tim2
Hi Adam, In reply to: My name is Adam Sweet. I'm a musician (primarily fiddler, but also classical violin/viola) and... I live in southeastern pennsylvania where I'm currently an engineering programmer in the field of data acquisition dealing mostly with chemical/mineral analysis. I also have a deep passion for music and woodworking. I enjoy physical fitness which includes a lot of time playing racquetball and hiking/backpacking. In reply to: 3 boys in my family, 1 girl...all musicians too piano, violin/viola, cello/bass/trombone, flute/piano/violin I found it interesting that the (flute/piano/violin) instrument selection be the same as mine. Besides the violin, I also play piano and flute - both metal and Native American style (which I've also been making for many years). One of my first instruments was classical guitar but I haven't picked it up in quite a while. One of my sons is a very good classical guitarist, and I'm just beginning to get one of my grandaughters involved in playing the violin: Tim
KillinKatz
Well, hello, ex-neighbor! Strange, we're less than a mile from the border with Mansfield. To us, this is Hicksville; we used to live in East Hartford. Now, we can actually see the stars at night.

Ron MacDonald
Hi Adam, This is a response to your reply way back in the thread. I play classical violin and viola. I also love Scottish fiddling. We used to live in Pitmeddon, just north of Aberdeen and both my children played in a Scottish fiddle group called "The Ythan Junior Fiddlers". A month ago we had David Greenberg, a fantastic Celtic Fiddler and Baroque specialist, performing with Symphony New Brunswick (we always use this backwards designation to make translation into our other offical language more intuitive e.g. Air Canada). He did an extraordinary performance of Vivaldi's Four Seasons--actually three performances since we tour three cities. New/Nouveau Brunswick is Canada's only offically bilingual province. Quebec is French only and the rest are English only. Ron
xcheerleader
I live in Atlanta, GA. My name is Amy. I'm a beginner violinist. I just finished my 1st Suzuki book! Maestronet is a great reference for me. Usually, I cannot add anything to the threads, but when I need to know something, I go to the archives. It's always there. Thanks to all the pros here who answer the questions.
