Joseph Liu
Does anyone know any community orchestras in Los Angeles for amateur musicians? I play the violin, but not too well. I would like to play in an orchestra for fun. I'd appreciate your suggestions.
james
Off the top of my head the following, but I couldn't tell you if they all still exist. Bellflower Symphony San Gabriel Symphony Santa Monica Symphony Long Beach City College Orchestra Downey Symphony Rio Hondo Symphony
SPIFFY_WIFFY
Rio Hondo and Downey are semi-professional groups. Often by audition/contacts only. Bellflower also pays (very minimal). As for purely amateur groups, local Community Colleges and maybe even the Universities are a good place to start. Feel free to e-mail me. I am active in the L.A. Area on violin. peonymusic
Joseph Liu, I play in a nice community orchestra in Glendale -- the Glendale Community College Orchestra. If you email me I'll send you more information. I don't think you mentioned where you live, or how far you are willing to drive. FYI Glendale is near Pasadena and north of downtown LA. Joseph Liu
Thank you all for your help! I live in the Valley, so Glendale is pretty close. Peonymusic, I don't see your email address in your profile.
peonymusic
E mail me and we can talk about when the next concert is, and all the details. We hope that you'll enjoy playing with our group. I have emailed you privately, having just found your number on your website. Thanks.
