Jeffh
My teacher wants me to buy a book called "Exercises/Etudes/Studies for violin" by Schradieck. I have been looking but cannot find this title. Anyone have any info? Jeff
linuxviolin
Is it possibly the "school of violin-technics?" That's three volumes, for "promoting dexterity in the various positions," "double-stops" and "different modes of bowing." Schirmer has a good edition. technique_doc
The book you're probably looking for is; Die Schule der Violintechnik (School of Violin technique). Schradieck only provided the Violin world with educational work, these (and other) exercises for left hand and 25 etudes. I rate them right at the top of left hand work. I think Ida Haendel was quoted as having done 1,000 hours of Schradieck. I did one hour a day for 3 1/2 years, cover to cover, rhythms, bowings, finger techniques, tempi. They are not very interesting but they train your fingers very well. Buy now and see the improvements possible!!
Jeffh
From what you say,i better buy the book. My teacher said "it is torture", but if doing the exercise helps i am all for it. Jeff
linuxviolin
Don't think of it as torture- you'll really get better from it. Expect to spend a good amount of time practicing it a day, and once you get beyond the first two pages, you'll be using your brain a lot more (there's only so much you can do with four fingers and one string)
