oldsubguy
I have a buzzing open "D" string on my viola. I have tried new string, peg, bridge and bridge placement. I also found a 1/2 inch crack in the upper end of the lower loop of the right "F" hole. Should I use fingernail polish on it? And could it be the cause? flamenco
For general buzzing, search past posts. The crack should only be glued with hide glue.
DelDuca
Could you, while bowing the offending string, put your finger over the crack and let us know if that changed anything? Cause or not, I would think it a good idea to have the crack repaired properly before it expands and causes trouble. Nail polish will make it more difficult to fix, as the polish will have to be removed in order for the hide glue to have maximum effect.
