Guy_Gallo Posted September 6, 2002 Report Posted September 6, 2002 I have ebony Hill style pegs. These are very plain pegs with a small ball at the outer edge. The ball fits into to the peg. On one of my pegs the ball has vanished. Fell out, knocked out, who knows? It's gone. Is there somewhere I can get this tiny little ball? Thanks.
lzaikoski Posted September 6, 2002 Report Posted September 6, 2002 To extend falstaff's question, I would like to 'dress up' the pegs on my fiddle and have always thought that little malachite balls would nicely complement the fact that I play primarily Irish music (malachite comes in such beautiful shades of green). Malachite beads are pretty cheap in the craft stores, but what would be the best way to attach them? Is simply drilling a small set hole and using glue good enough? Or, should I consider "pinning" them to the end of the peg with a little brass/gold nail? Len
flamenco Posted September 6, 2002 Report Posted September 6, 2002 I think Howard Core has them. If you email me I can remember to check. I don't like them because they fall out. When one falls out, I use superglue and ebony dust to fill the hole, then polish the peg end. Can't tell the things were ever there!
David B Posted September 7, 2002 Report Posted September 7, 2002 I had one break off once. The peg had a perfect fit so I didn't want to mess with cutting a new one. My solution was to purchase another peg and carefully remove the ball by using a Dremel drill. I removed material from the peg adjacent to the ball and it just poped out. I then carefully drilled out the remains from the ball (it has a shaft) on the original peg. Finally I just glued in the new ball. Kind of a pricey fix (the cost of a new peg) but the missing ball really anoyed me and I certainly did not want to shave a new peg if the existing one fited nicely. Hope this helps.
