Baroque tailgut

This question is driving me nuts: how does one tie tailgut on a Baroque-style tailpiece? I've looked a photos such as the Strad poster of the Stainer violin in original condition, and I don't see a knot or any clue as to how to tie the tailgut securely as well as neatly.

That one drove me batty for awhile too.

The 'tie' is at the endpin, on the underside, and consists of heat-swelling the ends of the gut, overlapping them, and lapping around them with carpet thread between the two ends.

(ignore the underline marks on the lower left, ascii diagram doesn't work well here.)

I don't have provenance for this, I got it from a builder.
