Pet Peeve 1. dirty mute

I know this might sound small but it bothers me.

Anybody know of a good way to clean the black stains that a Tourte brand rubber mute leaves on the bridge?

Any suggestion for a replacement? My teacher had recommended the one-hole Tourte as it affects the strings less and stated that the slide-on metal mute was the worse.
