tbloemer Posted March 27, 2001 Report Posted March 27, 2001 On several bows and even on some violins I often see roman numerals (XII, XIII, etc). What is the significance of these numerals? Are these factory production run numbers or what? Could someone please shed some light on this subjust for me. Thanks.
Mark_W Posted March 28, 2001 Report Posted March 28, 2001 On violins, it's just to match factory parts for a given model for assembly purposes. I've seen the same thing on some alleged handmade violins--maybe they were purchased in the white and reworked.
Sammler Posted March 28, 2001 Report Posted March 28, 2001 The numbers will normally be also scratched onto the frog for that particular stick, as each frog is made to fit a particular stick. I was informed by a German Master Bow maker, that high numbers XII, etc., are normally mass produced bows. Is this the same in other Countries?
