violin identificatin

Recommended Posts

I purchased a 4/4 violin at a pawn shop over the weekend for my son. It has no label. The back is one piece with the letters C S engraved (or stamped) at the top of the back. The letters are about 1/4 inch tall. Between the C and S is a black dot about 1/8 inch in diameter, which is probably an embedded peg.

Can someone help me identify the maker and timeframe of construction? Also, any idea about its worth (it is in excellent condition)? Thank you.

Hi -

I can find 67 listed makers with the Initials C.S.

I'm afraid more clues will be needed before anyone will be able to help you.

Pictures ?

ANYthing inside the violin ANY where ? (to show place, name or date ?)

Dear fubbi2,

Thank you for your feedback and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I can find no further identifying marks on the violin. The only thing is the C S impressed into the top of the back. Do any of the 67 makers with CS initials put them on the back? Thanks
