spirit varnish in rusty metal jars !!!!!!

Recommended Posts

A few years ago I got a spirit varnish from Hammerl. It came in a metal jars.A few days ago I found a base varnish in one of the jars very dark and very unpleasant colored.I removed the varnish and found a rust in the bottom of the jar. mad.gif

Do never keep your varnish in metal containers like me!

I think it's a bit late to ask for explanation from Hammerl. So does somebody know how to fix this mess?

Greetings, and have a nice week.

Stepan

Very strange! There must have been WATER in the varnish! I have never heard of water being an ingredient in spirit varnish. Have you?

Dear frends,

You all meke jokes with me smile.gifsmile.gif

Onece the metal is covered with a stainless coating inside and outside the bottle ,there must be no way to make rust.

And what is more ,there is a rust in only one of the bottles.

Perhaps that one can (Stepan--if it's glass, it's a "bottle" or a "jar", if it's metal it's a "can") had a defect in the coating, and the water in the varnish found it. As William noted, there's always water in alcohol--I think the water content quite easily reaches 10% under normal conditions, and 95% alcohol is one commonly available commercial strength.
