  1. Alexander Reshetnichenko from Albany and Valdosta orchestras. https://slippedisc.com/2020/12/us-concertmaster-offers-5000-for-return-of-stolen-violin/
  2. I received a notice today (10 Dec) that yesterday, an Amati was stolen in Los Feliz (part of LA) California. This notice came from Tarisio's. Apparently it was a client? They included pictures, attached. I assume this notice went out to all the area Violin stores, but in the past, have been surprised that when prominent violins were missing, some of the stores had not been sent a notice. And if anyone here sees something like this on fleabay or Craig's lust...let me know, I want to put a low ball bid in </kidding off>
  3. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2020-07-22/the-mystery-of-a-stolen-rare-cello-has-a-surprise-ending The image revealed the luthier’s label, visible through one of the curlicued f-holes. Across it was a note inscribed in the feathery pen of the master himself: Pour la petite Comtesse Marie 1834. “For the little Countess Marie.” “I could hardly believe it,” she recalled. The cello had been given to her as a child by her father; nearly 40 years earlier, it had been stolen. Custom-made for the daughter of a French aristocrat two centuries ago, it was a spectacular, rare one-eighth-size cello produced by Bernardel, protégé of Nicolas Lupot, violin maker to King Louis XVIII. Bernardel’s craftsmanship earned him renown as among the finest string instrument makers in France.....
  4. Someone broke into my car and stole my violin a few months back. I just found this community, and thought I'd post just in case anyone stumbles across it. The label is marked 'Johann Georg Lippold, ca. 1815, Neukirchen bey Adorf'. It was in a slightly customized Bobelock case (black with blue interior, needed the upper bout widened), with a bow and the usual accessories. The bridge is stamped 'K. CARDIFF' on one side. The violin has a lovely carved scroll which is pretty distinctive. Thanks in advance! There is a police report filed if anyone needs it. -Reuben
  5. Passing info along from a fellow violist, Melissa Dunphy, in Philly. If not posted in the right place, please let me know and I will try to fix. "My friend Nancy, a community member of the Penn orchestra, had her house broken into and along with three laptops HER VIOLA WAS STOLEN. I am utterly incensed on her behalf. I'm waiting on a better picture from her so I can post it on every social network I know, because surely if the internet can do anything, it can get this woman's viola back. In the meantime, here are some details from Nancy: A viola of French origin, possibly made by Cesar Pons, Paris, ca 1790, bearing a facsimile label: “Giovanni Grancino, Milan, 1696” Measurements: Body length: 40.4 cm Upper bout width: 19.2 cm Center bout width: 13.4 cm Lower bout width: 23.4 cm The peg box is distinctive in that the original holes were filled and new holes were drilled. John Safian of NJ did major repairs (gluing seams and cracks) last year, and his name is on the bridge. The bow is German and the stick was repaired up near the tip. The instrument was stolen Nov 30, 2014, between 6 and 8 PM; its empty case was found abandoned a couple of blocks away the next morning."
  6. I hope this is an appropriate forum to post this. If not, I apologize, and would appreciate some direction for a more appropriate forum. Nikolai Tambovsky cello 2001 - Stolen Feb. 14, 2013 from the owner's home in Topeka, Kansas. It has a distinctive small rectangle of wood on the front upper bout where the maker filled a knot. The back is one solid piece. The pegs are a caramel colored wood (rosewood?), ornately carved, with little black balls on the ends. This is a professional-level instrument. The bow is a professional Coda bow. The cello case is a cream colored Bam hard suspension case with black handles and shoulder strap. The case also has wheels and a pull at the top. Please see the photos at http://s1288.beta.photobucket.com/user/Johnny_Kaw/library/Stolen_Tambovsky_cello Please, if you are offered this instrument, or if you see it anywhere, do the right thing. Contact local law enforcement and mention this posting. I have read the the thread in this form re: dealing with stolen instruments, so I think many of you have been in this situation. You may also contact me at steve_pinkston (at) yahoo.com. Thanks for your attention.
