  1. Hello, I am wondering how/if to repair a corner of my c-bout that chipped off of my violin while practicing. It is a clean break, but I want to put it back as quickly as possible. I’m giving a recital on this violin in a week and don’t think I’ll be able to make it to the shop to get it fixed before I leave the state to perform and wondered if a simple repair with wood glue would be absolutely horrific or detrimental to my instrument and it’s value. It is very nice instrument and new to me, and I do not want to be doing something entirely foolish. I really don’t want to cause any further damage to my instrument, and was finding mixed reviews to the solution online. Please get back to me at your earliest convenience — I’m kind of panicking a bit... The corner looks seamless when it is simply pressed back into place (without any adhesive) so I’m hoping that I might be able to make a simple repair on my own as it is not a part of the violin that needs to be reopened for any purposes.

    Violin for ID

Hello guys. Lob is 361mm, upper bout 162, cc 112, lower 200mm. Corner blocks are all on their places, with linings let into. According to corner blocks, unfortunately I am not able to make a photo. All 4 blocks are not a rectangle but more like hexagon from visible side. I hope you know what I am trying to say. Bassbar on place. Please help. Jay
  3. I have tried to look up some specifici information about corner blocks, but it was eluding me... I know what corner blocks are - little pieces of wood...mostly spruce or soft wood... I know where corner blocks are - 4 of them...2 at each C bout I know what corner blocks are for - to provide greater area to glue the plates to and to provide added stability I know that violins with corner blocks are preferred to violins without corner blocks and that many less expensive violins were (and still are) made without them. I also know that old violins have done perfectly fine...for 100s of years...without having corner blocks and that it doesn't necessarily reflect in the selling price of the instrument. But I don't quite see how you 'install' them (glue them on the form and then file them to shape? And I can't figure out how the rib linings seem to ooze into them. How/why do you do that? Thanks for your patience!
