  1. Hello I am selling my father's collection of luthier supplies - this is just a few items I've photographed thus far. I also have a full size viola - it is in excellent condition - as it was brought in to our studio just before my dad fell ill and remained in our inventory - purchased from either heinl & co or kessler violin co (chelmsford ontario) about 5 years ago - it needs to sing!!! asking $400 obo ivory fingerboards ivory chin rests bow hair - 15 packs - asking $50 asking $20 each or make me an offer for the lot if approved i will post many more new items - bridges, pegs, items for bows, rib wood, hand carving tools and so on- if you have a specific interest or questions please ask away! we are located in Windsor On. thank you!
  2. UPDATED March 14 It's been an awesome response to my post to sell off my barely used/never used luthier tools and materials. While I'll probably always wish I had actually pursued this work, at least I'm recouping some of the cost and the supplies and tools are finally getting used. Most items have been sold and delivered already. Here's what's left and up for sale still. I'm pricing everything at 50% of my cost or sometimes less. Pics supplied upon request. Jeweler's saw pick for plug removal bridge and fingerboard templates roll of waxed thread-bows 2 rolls of silk thread- bows. parallel jaw pliers- flatten knots alcohol lamp- small Violin Maker's Notebook- Henry Strobel I've also got many bows in need of repair/rehair that I got to use in my classes and practice on- I'll sell those off cheap- mostly shipping cost. So if you're looking to work on some bows I've probably got over 50 of them- mostly full size violin. Nothing looks like a "find" but many would make decent bows to resell after you've done your work on them.
  3. Hey Maestronet, Forgive me if this is the incorrect place for this sort of question. I'm trying to begin the journey down the road of bow making, and am having some trouble getting started. Where I'm from there are no real resources to go through for this sort of thing, so I'm kind of on my own. I've been reading books on actual luthier practices, making the instruments, and have one book specifically on bow making (the Kun and Regh book). I decided I was just going to take the plunge and start working, but now I can't seem to find a good supply of wood when it comes to bows. I know Pernambuco is regulated now, and cannot be shipped around so that will be impossible to find, but from my other reading I had assumed that there would be some way to find snakewood, or ironwood that would be usable for just getting started at least. The problem is that all of the boards, or blanks I find are so small (12" maximum compared to the 30"(770mm) that this book I'm using as a reference uses). Is there any place you guys know that is a reliable supplier of woods for a beginner such as me, or any alternative woods I could attempt to use just getting started? Or am I going about this all wrong in the first place anyway. Thanks in advance for any advice, good or bad!
