  1. Hello! I am from Russia (I don’t know English well, I translate it through Google). There is one violin Schweitzer copy Amati pestini 1814, it has long been evaluated by the master in Moscow. The master said that the violin is a manufactory, but not a lot of fake, but a good copy, which is included in the catalog, one of the 30 that are in the catalog. Please tell me how much will such a violin cost? I was thinking about evaluating the violin in London, but this assessment is very expensive for me and more, and suddenly the master from Moscow was mistaken and I have a simple fake for $ 100. The photo cannot be inserted, because it is limited by the moderator. Joh.Bapt.Schweitzer fecit at forin Hferonym Amati pestini 1814 (stamp on the lower deck inside the violin) Under the stamp in blue ink, the letters "I H" and something else are blurry. A copy of Amati - corresponds to the year - good condition - was not under repair.
  2. hello! please could you tell me the original of the or fake
  3. I am working on the restoration of a violin that has been in the same family since at least 1925, originally in the Charleston, SC area. The label attributes it to JB Schweitzer and is dated 1873, which would be quite remarkable, given that he died in 1865. It obviously differs not only from the common German workshop copies often dated 1813 or 1814, but also in the construction, particularly of the back, a two-piece affair made of highly-flamed maple. The ribs match the back. The top has cracks which have been repaired by me and a luthier named Cordell, in 1952 at his shop in Columbia, SC, where the family lived at that time. There are no stamps on the button and no frank indication that it was made in Germany. I am including several photos in hopes that someone might recognize this as a particular style of copy, or if the dim possibility that it might be authentic.
  4. I have a 4/4 violin with a label that reads, "Joh.Bapt.Schweitzer fecit ad forman Antonii Stradiuarii Pestini 18__" ~ it is dark brown in color and looks very old. It also has a very skinny neck. I can't upload pictures/don't know how - and i know the lack of pictures make it hard to really tell anything but any advice would be greatly appreciated. I was told that it has a $5000 value but I personally would like to know if it is real or a copy
