I bought this old violin and was wondering how old it might be and maybe an area of origin. . Has a grafted neck and worm damage. My opinion is that it’s probably an old cottage industry that someone decided to spruce up many years ago. Has a couple old repairs inside with linen for the worms I suppose. It had a sound post crack that I glued and cleated myself. With hide glue of course. I thought I’d try that before I tackled a patch. It was rather thick in the middle. 4.3 high point. Top was graduated like a back. High point to lower moving out. So it has some sort of pattern. Will include rough pics of grads. No laughing. I never planned for anyone to see. The graft looks real and inside is fake corner blocks. Also appears to be coated with something inside. Either varnish or propolis. It’s thin and I scraped some off while removing glue from the back. I can’t remember if it’s on the belly it was a while back. It’s plays pretty decent though not overly loud. Has a very nice tone. Any help would be great. I’m feeling a modified usual. Hopefully I’m wrong.

Hi everybody, I have another violin here. Does anyone have any information on this one? I don't know anything about it What decade? Where is it from? What kind wood, varnish? What do you think about the scroll? Does the kind of scroll identify the violin in some way? You can see on the photos, some wood worm, or just little holes? What can I do to fix that? I don't find that it effects the sound in any way. It's still very clean, and sweet, no hissing or anything. Thanks, as always, you are much appreciated, Rachel

Hello, I was looking at pictures of a worm damage here http://www.burgessviolins.com/Oberlin/oberlinrestoration.htm The colour picture shows no damage at all!!! Also I noticed that all grains match perfectly! How is it possible to do such a work? What is the method and who performed this particular work? Of course it's experience and knowledge, but I would be happy to at least understand the step by step idea. Thank you!
