  1. Help on identifying this violin bow? Reminds me of Knopf school bows. Tip plate is made out of silver I think and is pinned. Underslide is pinned twice. Length is around 71.5cm without adjuster, 73cm with adjuster. https://www.flickr.com/photos/152316993@N07/albums/72157710193863751
  2. Hey folks! My first post here! I got a violin from a friend in Germany that I'm trying to find out about its origins, who the maker might be, all that stuff, but I have very little to go by, since it's unlabeled. Inside, I found a big 'S' branded on the upper block, and what seems to be the letters 'C S' branded on the top plate and the bass bar. The corner blocks are flush with the ribs and the linings go over them instead of into them. On the back, south of the bass F-hole, I found some pencil scribb
  3. So a friend of mine bought this violin at a small auction and got it for $70. He then decided he didn't really want it and gave it to me a few months later. Lucky Me! Well I restored it by removing the black patch of rosin build up and taking it to a luthier to have a few seams re-glued. After the restorations, the violin plays great and has a set of dominant strings on it which respond very well. (And yes, I know the images display D'addario prelude strings. I purchased the dominants a few months after these pictures were taken). I then had a conversation with my local luthier trying to deter
  4. I'm having trouble with a rattling/buzzing sound coming from the cello when being played (bowed). My cello teacher (relatively well known in my area and played for 40+ years, ties to the BSO) and I cannot figure out why it is making this noise. Here is my setup: 2009 Stringworks Soloist III Cello with nice warm Larson Soloist (A&D) and Magnacore (G&C) strings, carbon fiber endpin, wolftone eliminator on the G string, bridge carved by yours truly to a nice height, curve, spacing, dampit cello humidifier. We've thus far eliminated the following possible causes: - wolfto
  5. Hi all, Just hoping you might be able to ID the maker of my violin. I was given it as a child and as it is in some serious need of restoration, I am hoping to ID it before I take it to a repairer. It says GVILLAMI inside but a google search has returned little to nothing! As I am a newbie, I am unable to upload photos. But if you know of any leads, anything will help. Thank you in advance!
  6. Anybody got anything on Albert Wolfram? Markneukirchen, 1932 Violin. Got the violin from the Weisshaar family in Orange, California. It's absolutely beautiful sounding, but I can't seem to find anything on this maker. Thanks
  7. Dear All, Recently my godfather passed away and left a fairly considerable number of assorted stringed instruments and bows to me in his will. Despite being a professional violinist I am woefully ignorant when it comes to identifying instruments and wondered whether anyone on here could help? These two violins seem to be the most recent in the collection and despite not having been played for about fifteen years are still incredibly responsive. Apologies for the quality of the photos, the lighting in the house is incredibly poor. Thanks in advance. http://imgur.com/a/jJwyj#0
  8. Hello, i recieved this vioin as a gift from a relitive. i was wonderingh as to its origin, and approx. age. there is no lable inside only a reapir note on the inside of the back written in pencil. that reads "repaired by paul k kissner portland OR Jan 1913" it looks to have all four corner blocks and is a bit more yellow to the varnish in person. thanks http://s1309.beta.ph...ary/?view=media
