Lipinski thief associate receives 3 1/2 years plus another 3 1/2 of supervison: http://z6mag.com/featured/universal-k-allah-sentenced-to-3-12-years-in-prison-for-5m-stradivarius-violin-theft-1624494.html Great article on why expensive violins are stolen by stupid thieves, and why/how Min-Jin Kym's violin was recovered. https://news.vice.com/article/the-5-million-violin-and-the-telltale-taser-inside-an-epically-stupid-crime I have forgotten many posts in the prior discussion of the Lipinski theft, and there was much concern that this was the possible start of a new trend. The above article does state why it's relatively rare for expensive violins to be stolen, so much less need to worry. Citing more reputable sources, even Laurie of violinist.com - this is actually fairly interesting, and most thefts seem to be ones of opportunity and forgetfulness. 7 out of 8 recovery is outstanding. I am outraged, however: the woman who drove the getaway wasn't charged at all, and I am guessing she was the one who revealed the exact site where the Strad was, or may have been pressured into cooperation (though all the press stated that it was the informant who provided the biggest lead, which was the person identified as WD.)
