Help identifying the specific maker of my Nürnberger bow
iloveluthierie posted a topic in The Pegbox
Hi, everyone! I am looking for some help identifying which member of the Nürnberger family made my cello bow. I have reason to believe it was made by Franz Albert Nürnberger II based on my research, but I am by no means an expert, nor am I anywhere close to being one. I have attached detailed photos of the bow and have enhanced the brands for your reference. There are three brands on the stick - “ALBERT NÜRNBERGER” in a sans-serif font above the frog, "1896" and "No. 5729" on the underside of the frog. As I understand it, the sans-serif font was used by Franz Jr. from 1884 when he took over the business until around 1910, when the serif font began to be used. Does anyone have any thoughts?- 13 replies

In addition to all the discussion about bridges, both acoustically and shaping, never mind movement, we had a discussion about prepared bridge stamps. The advantage of this "stamp" is that one can easily change it as desired, and add crude graphics as well. Price has gone down and capabilities have gone up. This one at kickstarter has a few more days at intro price. It's a low priced laser engraver. Thoughts?

Hello, I have come across a little Maggini here. What is the stamp on the back of the scroll? What is this violin? What do you think about the back? Please be specific and give me as much detailed information as possible. When is it from or where? The purfling? Thanks for having a look, much appreciated, Rachel

My first post here. I'm afraid I don't see how to upload an image. I will just use words. I'm looking at an *Albert Nurnberger* bow said to be from 1907. I see two discrepancies and wonder whether they indicate that this bow isn't the genuine item. First, the stars are not in line with the rest of the stamp. They're both separated from the main part of the stamp, and they're off center. Second, as I understand, the stars were not included in the stamp until 1920 or so. (If anyone can tell me how to upload a picture, I will do so.) Thanks!
