  1. Hello, Please see images below... this violin has gone in for repair - would really appreciate any comments on when and where it might have been made. Also possible value? Please may you also include what identifies it ( I am new here, curious and eager to learn!)
  2. Hey guys, i was wondering, if any of you had an idea, where my violin could've been built and what it might be worth. For context, I am southern german and still live there. I got it the violin from my grandma, who got it from her aunt, where it was used as wall decoration. It is said that my grandma's uncle might have bought it from someone on the street. So no one knows where this violin was made... I'm not asking for this because I want to sell the violin, I'm just really interested, because I love the sound of it and I think the wood on the back looks amazing. I hope you pros have some ideas, which rough area it might come from. Thank you all so much in advance!
  3. I don't know much about his violin except that it looks as if it had a catastrophic accident (like someone sitting on it, or similar). The neck does not appear to be original to the body, but is apparently quite old as well. The repairs are extensive, and were all done at the same time, so someone must have cared enough to undergo all of that. I've already had one opinion from a good local luther, and was told it "leans" toward Italian with respect to the wood, age, purling. I'm just curious if any of you can determine anything about it from the photos, like the country of origin, age, school, etc. Or....what it's NOT. (FYI, if you can't read the brand on the bridge, it says "Bein & Fushi Chicago".)

    pearwood

Hi everyone, Use of pearwood pops up every now and then in forums, both in older instruments and the ones currently in making, but how common has the use of pearwood been over centuries? Is it characterising any particular region, time periood or school? Was it just the pear neck, or entire instrument body (perhaps except the deck) ?
  5. Hello, im completely new to this site, and I dont know if im doing this right. Anyways.. Let me introduce myself, i'm Niam, a violin dealer in UK and I have acquired a lovely looking violin. I would like to hear your opinions about anything about the violin (value? origin, age, etc). I'd love to hear different insights. The violin is in perfect condition and has fluted f-holes, a nice blonde varnish and well done purfling. Im hoping the pictures will upload and that i did it right O.o Thanks!
  6. Hello, i recieved this vioin as a gift from a relitive. i was wonderingh as to its origin, and approx. age. there is no lable inside only a reapir note on the inside of the back written in pencil. that reads "repaired by paul k kissner portland OR Jan 1913" it looks to have all four corner blocks and is a bit more yellow to the varnish in person. thanks http://s1309.beta.ph...ary/?view=media
