Hello, Please see images below... this violin has gone in for repair - would really appreciate any comments on when and where it might have been made. Also possible value? Please may you also include what identifies it ( I am new here, curious and eager to learn!)
Last month I purchased an “old French violin” from a gentleman in Ventenac-Cabardes, France. It is labeled: "Alex-dre DELANOY à Bordeaux, élève de JB Vuillaume, 1914". The violin also has a hand-inscription above the label "Modèle d'après Guadagnini" as pictured below. So, I’ve been told to be highly skeptical about labeling in violins with no validated provenance. My luthier in the Washington, D.C. area is not an expert in old European violins, but he said it is certainly an older instrument and in very nice condition. Hello everyone, I would like you to see the pictures below; a friend of mine has been playing this violin for the last 10-15 years or so and nobody is sure about its origin: some people think it could be italian XVIII century but other say "french"... Top of violin is a modern replacement by a spanish violin maker so I´m only posting some pictures of back. I hope I will be able to upload some pictures of the scroll very soon if it helps but let´s see the back first. Any suggestions are wellcome as usually! Thanks in advance!
