I am building a new 4/4 Cello.
The top will be of reclaimed wide grain lumber: old-growth Ontario Red Pine(Pinus resinosa) milled in 1880 A.D.; the grain varies from 9 (nine) to 19 (nineteen) rings per inch.
There are two nail holes 5 mm diameter.
Question: Should the nail holes be patched with wood from the cut-offs OR left alone OR filled with twig end grain to simulate a knot?
The cello is for myself and I really like the “honest” look of less-than-perfect materials and workmanship (so did the late Mike Molnar).
Thanks in advance for your advice.
Yours truly,
Randy O’Malley
