Hello, I’m just beginning to learn the violin and I’ve purchased an early 20th century German workshop violin. It’s labeled Sebastien Kloz an 1700. I believe it was a classic attic violin that the previous owner didn’t have the money to repair, I paid £440 from a local luthier which basically just covered the work he put into it. I was just wondering if there’s anymore I can find out about it. Where in Germany might it have been made? Is there any way of knowing the specific year? Is it just the plain wood that make it a cheaper factory instrument or is there something about it’s construction that would have made it more affordable? What would it have sold for and are there thousands more identical ones out there? Many thanks, Rhys

Just wondering if anybody could help me determine the authenticity of this violin. Purchased at an estate sale and was wondering if it’s even worth restoring. In person and has more of a reddish tone to the wood. On the inside it is stamped Medio Fino , and on the opposite side ( inside ) is a logo and initials JTL. I also can’t tell if those are actual cracks or just deep scratches on the back at the bottom. Thank you for time !
