  1. I've got a couple of cheap bows at hand that are in ok shape apart from that they have lost practically all of their camber. I'd like to try and recamber them. As they were cheap bows and now worthless, its no loss if I mess up. I don't really know what I'm doing, and was just thinking of clamping a heat gun and holding the stick in the hot air, turning it and moving it back and fro, so that it doesn't overheat locally, but gets warm all through, and then handbend it into shape. But I guess there must be better ways of doing it....
  2. I understand the concept, and I have my plastic mandrel ready, but does anyone have pictures? Brown paper vs wood? Wood type=maple? Advice? Caveats? Spiral bushing jokes? Thanks in advance! (yes, I cleaned up a rough hole, and now it is too big )
  3. I just finished reworking an old fiddle I bought at an antique store. The back needed to be graduated around the C bouts...the wood was about 5mm thick all the way around them and about 1" in from them. I tried to get the label off first, but it was of course old and brittle and in the end, got torn apart while scraping the wood. I am glad to say this is one of the best fiddles I have done; it sounds great! It shouldn't...it was made with no corner blocks and a carved-out bass bar. Is there a way to remove a label without destroying it? I ask because this was a lable I have never seen, and no one I know has ever seen one either. Below are links to pics, incuding the pre-reno bass bar, and the label. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks! http://s32.photobucket.com/user/fiddsj/media/annandale4.jpeg.html?filters[user]=10247462&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=2 http://s32.photobucket.com/user/fiddsj/media/annandale3.jpeg.html?filters[user]=10247462&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=3 http://s32.photobucket.com/user/fiddsj/media/annandale2.jpeg.html?filters[user]=10247462&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=4 http://s32.photobucket.com/user/fiddsj/media/annandale1.jpeg.html?filters[user]=10247462&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=5 http://s32.photobucket.com/user/fiddsj/media/annandale5.jpeg.html?filters[user]=10247462&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=1 http://s32.photobucket.com/user/fiddsj/media/annandale6.jpeg.html?filters[user]=10247462&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=0 My apologies for not figuring out a better way to post pictures.
