I am looking for opinions on this violin. I have one valuation that states that this is late 19th century Mittenwald violin made by Hornsteiner family luthier. Another violin dealer agreed that this is a Mittenwald instrument but it looks way more exiting than Hornsteiner instrument. All I can add as a player is that it is loud as a cannon and not in bad way. The label inside says Adolph Spicker dealer and repairer Cincinnati O, which obviously means that he imported the violin as a part of his business. What do you think?

Hi all and Happy New Year, I have owned this violin for 17 years now and it´s one of my favourite violins, but all I say is it´s a german violin from 19th century. Can you anybody please help with a more accurate and precise information? Anybody see an individual maker or workshop here? Label says Joseph Horenstainer Musicant Mittenwald an der Iser 1834. I have played it for many years and I really love its tone; an easy to play violin too. A really light thin violin with some nice craquelature almost all over back, top and scroll. Thanks in advance!! Luis

I can't find my original post about my Hornsteiner 1799, Mittenwald. In any event, how does one get certification when it seems this is a task few do. The latest I heard was that there is so much liability in these certifications, since the maker is not living. Yet the contour, grain, finish, etc of the instrument plus tone should give clues. I wish I could post pics of my Hornsteiner, but I don't know how, so instead I'm including a link to footage that showcases the violin
