So I've decided to make an attempt at creating a more original f-hole shape. Any opinions/critiques are greatly appreciated, and anyone who would like to share their original designs are welcome. p.s. don't mind some of the irregularities, I freehanded this, scanned it, and then filled it in with black on the computer.

I remember that some years ago a high profile violin maker claimed in a Strad article that putting a 1g weight in a certain spot in the violin would bring out the desired over all sound quality. As far as I remember it was about getting the 'sizzle' in the sound. Of course he didn't say where this spot is. Maestronetters are more open about their sound experiments. @Don Noon conducted an interesting experiment where he cut away the upper right f-wing with the result that the overall loudness improved but sound quality decreased . Sam Zygmontovitch made in his Strad 3D film as well some comments on the area between lower f points and the c bout rim. Last not least I remember having read an article which focused on the importance of the thickness around the f holes. It is known that if the area below the treble side f hole is too thin a wolf note can come out. So how important is the region around the f holes for the sound quality and loudness? Opinions? Experiences?

Reading an article in the December "The Strad" has me wondering about the f-hole. As I look at the minutely "asymmetrical" example provided by the Brusilow Del Gesu...all I can come up with is "seriously?". We...in this generation...are guilty of over thinking everything. ..especially in hindsight. Taking a page from my knitting (yes...I know and I don't care )...I make mistakes that I don't correct...I eyeball...I will chance doing something different if experience suggests I can safely predict the outcome. Anyone who knits better than I do might see those aberrations. ..and anyone who doesn't - won't. I can't overthink every step of every project . ..or nothing would ever be completed. Isn't it more than likely Del Gesu just eyeballed the f-holes and if he saw that they were a bit off just shrugged his shoulders and said " Meh! Good enough! Who is ever going to notice? "

Hi, Please forgive this probably simple question. I have just purchased a 'budget' Violin for my Son. It has arrived and I have noticed that the f-hole on the 'E' string side of the Violin does not follow the belly of the violin top curve. The bridge side of the reversed f-hole is noticeably lifted, feeling a lot higher that the opposite side of the f-hole (bridge side to edge of Violin). Is this correct or a sign of a poorly made Violin? Is it a significant problem? Sorry for the amateur nature of this question. Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thank you. Kind regards, Martin.
