Hallo everybody So i've been working on making my own oil varnish and pigments for a while now, and it seems that for every variable that i try at least 2 more open up. While looking for answers to different questions i came across several threads here that had a lot of useful information, but i couldn't find a lot about the actual method of grinding self made pigments into oil varnish, or how to layer them. Is somebody here familiar with these techniques and feeling like talking about them? I could really use some tips / tricks / things to avoid / things to look for from experienced people

Over the past few weeks my A string peg has been slipping. I thought it was typical climate fluctuations until today. The peg no longer hold tension due to a crack traveling toward the scroll. Is there a way to reinforce this from home?

Hi all, I started drawing out a violin sized string jack based off this design I found online: http://www.scavm.com/Bridgejk.htm I'm thinking I'd like to divide it a little more equally in half (with a taller base) and make feet at the bottom to ensure that pressure is distributed over bassbar and soundpost. I was wondering if anyone could comment on what makes a good bridge jack, design flaws to be avoided. Thanks, Joel

Continuing on the trend of making highly specialized luthier tools with whatever I have lying around, I made a thickness gauge! It's a piece of oak, cut in the shape of a lyre because I wanted it to be more than just a plain [ bracket shape (and the whole thing with Apollo's lyre and god of music and all that, it's symbolic as well as practical), with a cheap but accurate digital caliper I had, some brass screws, rubber band, and a couple of burnt LEDs for the tips! I considered putting a little lever on it but it's really easy to raise the measuring bit the way it is with a thumb or just pulling on it so I think I'll just leave it as it is, since it's working just fine.
