i have a friend that has this violin, he paid 1500 euros for it, from a romanian luthier, and i heard that this luthier buys form china , a good set up and he sell at a higher price. Does it looks like a chinese violin?

Hi there Kevin again. I wound up getting a Yita T20, MC7000, “Best Quality“ cello after all. I put in a bid on eBay and thought someone would bid it up. Well, they didn’t - so its mine. I’ve posted a few pictures. There doesn’t seem to be many close up pictures online so I thought I’d post some. I haven’t set it up, but I can immediately tell the bridge feet don’t fit so it so I’ll either have to get it better fit or get a new one. A new tailpiece is probably in order too. This was all expected given the price I paid, which was $711 + $189 shipping. Overall, the body is really nice and the wood appears to have been aged fairly well. One thing that I noticed was the top and bottom of the back have been nailed to the blocks. (pictured) Also, there is a noticeable imperfection in the neck that I’ve pictured. I’m wondering if its just on the surface or whether it will crack through over time, or whether the top block will hold it together. What do you think? Perish the thought of sending it back to China. Only the luthier will know. Otherwise, the body seems really great and I’m confident it will produce a good sound. Anyway, here are the pics. I’ll keep y’all posted.

(apart from the bridge that is placed the wrong way around ) It looks too new to be from 1949, and also the fingerboard looks as though it's just come out of the workshop. Would this be an example of a new Chinese instrument, with a fake label of a not too well-known Italian luthier, to make it not too obvious that it is something else, or could this be genuine? Joris

So a friend of mine bought this violin at a small auction and got it for $70. He then decided he didn't really want it and gave it to me a few months later. Lucky Me! Well I restored it by removing the black patch of rosin build up and taking it to a luthier to have a few seams re-glued. After the restorations, the violin plays great and has a set of dominant strings on it which respond very well. (And yes, I know the images display D'addario prelude strings. I purchased the dominants a few months after these pictures were taken). I then had a conversation with my local luthier trying to determine the origin of this violin (The inside label says "Antonius Stradiuarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1734" which gives me absolutely no info about this at all other than its a copy of a strad, just like millions of other violins on this planet). He told me that his first impression was that it was Chinese because of the varnish but because of the purflng, it seems French. However, the arching around the outside doesn't swoop down then back up like a typical French violin. We went on and talked about different features this violin has that pointed in completely different directions on the globe regarding its origin. I guess I'm just curious because this violin is not like any one I've seen before. Any opinions about anything would be greatly appreciated. Extra info: It has all 4 corner blocks (this is nothing like a mass-produced instrument from the 20's) There have been no cracks/repairs besides re-gluing seams The varnish looks exactly the same in real life as it does in the pictures (So there's nothing to worry about with poor color reproduction) If you want any higher res or cropped images to focus on certain details (Or even images of something I didn't take pictures of) feel free to ask, I can take pictures any time. I always feel determined to get the best picture of what I'm told to take a picture of so no need to worry about anything being out of focus, blurry, or having poor lighting.

I am in the market for an instrument for my son. My wife is a high school choir teacher and I am a school orchestra director grades 5-12. My son is a vocalist and cello player since age 5. He is now 15 and attended 5 all-state level choirs, a number of solo and ensemble awards both vocal and cello, music camp scholarship awards on cello, member of local youth orchestra and attenended 5 years of SIYA camp and 2 years of Foster music camps. He aspires to be a choir and or orchestra teacher either in public, private schools or college. My point is he is a serious student of music with goals and ambition. He is at the point where he wants to audition for interlochen, brevard etc. and I feel the need to purchase him an instrument that will be competitive on that level and perhaps later audition for Scholarships and admission into a college for music. I have talked with instrument suppliers in my region. Of course they want a price range. Since I'm a teacher these stores are offering a 50% discount. And have offered for our in home trials a "klaus mueller" hand picked from warehouse $9500 "Wang Yi" hand picked by myself and son from warehouse $9500 And "J wojciechowski" $12500 also hand picked Even at 50% this represents a huge investment for our family. Info about these makes, advice on making the most of the trial, other models to audition in this price range and any other suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all, I'm curious about your opinions about buying items direct from China. Is eBay a good place to buy from China? Is the process simple/any import or custom fees(USA)? Is it reliable if the seller has many good reviews? And is it even a good idea? I'm curious because im thinking about purchasing an unfinished Chinese violin off ebay. Thanks!

I can't place the f holes. Wonderful Sound, Strange Shape. At about 4:58 the video below it is side splitting funny. According to the blurb, there is a whole area of violin history of which I was unaware. Q for MNrs: I have not seen any of Nicholas Marty's (short for Martiin ?) instruments for sale or at auction. Is he related to Mr. Swan ? Are there any of Marty's instruments around? Still worth playing? Who was Antonio Stella bottom tile? Apparently Ashens reviews toy products sent to him. And the luthier for this VSO used a Chinese copy of google translate? Which wasn't working very well? The kid on the cover does need to work on his bow grip, however - his/hers is neither Russian nor FB. Jacob: No chance this violin is from MKN, I believe. Wrong fluting, and no purfling. I think this violin would be perfect for bassclef.
