I am planning to replace the ebony tailpiece with two traditional steel fine tuners on my violin with an ebony tailpiece with two built-in fine tuners. My main concern with the present tailpiece is weight, followed by looks (due to the two heavy fine tuners and different string length the tailpiece is tilted towards one side). Different manufacturers (being based in Europe I looked at ULSA, Teller, W-Fittings, Bogaro & Clemente and Bois d'Harmonie) use different materials for the integrated fine tuners. Is there any tonal difference to be expected between fine tuners made from aluminium and the way more expensive titanium alloy ones? I read that density of Al is lower than Ti, stiffness and tensile strength of Ti are much higher than Al, and speed of sound is about the same. Does this has an audible influence on tone? What about carbon fibre fine tuners? They are not very common in combination with wooden tailpieces, but Bogaro & Clemente seem to use them.

I'm an italian cellist and this month I will have an important exam in my High School. I have to talk about bows built in carbon and I want to describe this new technology from a chemical point of view. I also would compare traditional bows' technology with carbon technology. So I ask you some information about this topic, thank you very much!
