I'm curious about the button stamp on this violin, which is either O.W. or W.O. The instrument belongs to my older brother, who has not touched it in over 50 years. To me it looks like a turn-of-the-20th-century German violin, but not necessarily. I'd be happy to hear from anyone who can tell me who the maker is.

Hello everyone, This is my first post here. I need helping in identifying the possible origins/manufacturer, etc. of an old violin. I don't think this violin is worth much, if anything. The violin belonged to my grandfather, who played it for most of his life. When he passed away in 1973 the violin became mine, and I have been playing it ever since. Soon my daughter will move up to a full sized violin and it would be fun if she could use this one as well. I have always been curious about the history of this violin, so any information will help. I am guessing it was purchased from a catalog, (possibly Sears), between 1900-1915, but those are merely guesses. This violin has a beautiful sound, and, by all indications (varnish, purfling, etc.) it is of decent quality. I would just love to know its story, and I don't care about how much it is (not) worth. The inside label appears to be gray in my photos, but that's because of my flashlight. The label is brown and its edges sort of "melt into" the surrounding wood. Thank you for any help you can provide,

I'm preparing to do a button patch on a violin that was repaired before. Someone had drilled holes between the block and back surface and inserted a piece of wood to try and secure the neck and previously broken button. I could fill the drill hole grooves at the ends only or completely for the one on the left, but am thinking if I make the patch wider at the bottom I'll only need to do the ends that extend beyond where the block will be. Would you choose to do either of these shapes or something different? In the 2nd diagram I would adjust the straight lines to curve outwards a little. I calculate it would reveal about 3mm new wood from the outside at the corners of the button. Thanks for any opinions. Hope the pictures come out right. Havn't uploaded anything for a while accept a test.
