When I have the opportunity for cutting my rib material long enough, I prefer to not cut at the bottom block. Instead I bend the entire lower bout in one go. Is there a structural need to cut ribs at the lower block? All the making materials has that, but I dislike my knife cuts so avoid it. Anyone else do a complete lower bout in one bending?

OK, here is an easy one for the professionals here. I make my mould, and shellac it all over. Even where the blocks will be glued in. I am getting tired of the blocks getting knocked loose. Obviously I should not be using shellac at the glue joint of the blocks But then, when the blocks are knocked away, there will be tear-out of the mould, won't there? That requires filling. Is that how you guys do it? Just fill in the mould every time you make a new violin? Also, I was taught to cut a thin slot on the side of the block that is not glued. Then insert aluminum foil. Is that what you do? Thanks
