I’m looking for the current value of a violin made by Friedrich Wilhelm Meisel in 1782 in I believe Quittenbach, Saxony. I am aware of the violin maker’s reputation (not exactly one of the greatest) but perhaps this antique violin from the 18th Century may have some value to a collector. The violin has been in my family for around 80 years. I am considering selling it as I'm a musician but not a violinist. Any information would be very helpful. Thank you in advance for your opinion.

I'm having a hard time figuring out the origin of this instrument. It seems to have a lot of French attributes. It is 24" long, French boxwood pegs with MOP inlay, the saddle could be from anywhere I suppose, and the scroll looks to be French. The top and back both are one piece, which is another clue I think. Also the ribbing seems to be more present than normal German violins from the 19th century (if it is from that period) My confusion is in the varnish. There is no label. If you can identify a maker, Chanot, Schweitzer, even Peter Wamsley maybe (here's hoping), that'd be great. Any help is appreciated. Thank you! Where would you say this violin originated? (Neither the pictures nor the violin belongs to me. It is a violin for sale, and the owner believes it to be of Italian/French origin, and definitely not cottage industry. ) It bears a label "Hirish" inside apparently.

This inscription was found inside a violin - can anyone help with what it means? Is Schloss a person or as I suspect a place in Saxony? 'Antonius Stradivarius by A A Schloss Saxony Anno 1716'
