  1. Any comments about this Bow? The frog and the button doesn't look like an original to me. is this Andre or Joseph? real or fake? Please advise.
  2. Dear experts and followers of online auctions, As you have probably read the violin of Pavel Vernikov have been stolen in a Geneva train station. It was a 1747 G.B. Guadagnini violin in a grey GEWA plastified case with 4 bows- Eury, Maire (Gold Mounted), Sartory and Peccatte dedicated to (J. Verdier, Paris 1877 on the silver part of the frog). If it has been a commissioned crime the instrument might not appear - if not it will sooner or later appear on some auction, or on internet. All info can be sent to Pavel Vernikov or Svetlana Makarova via facebook. Thanks for your kind help- look for the articles reassuming the unlucky event on internet
  3. So what do you think - Sartory or not Sartory? The negative image is to show the name stamp more clearly. You have to hit the right arrow on each pic to go to the next. Thanks. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10154814637567662&set=pcb.10154814638322662&type=3&theater
  4. Hi all, I recently found out that one of my violin bows is very old, French, and rather valuable. It's labelled "E. SARTORY A PARIS" but I'm assured, by the people who are currently looking for buyers for me, that it's a decent quality copy, and not an authentic Sartory. It has also been fully restored prior to sale. The best offer they've had so far is £3500; they also said that if I were to try to sell it at auction I'd be likely to get half that at best. So I'm fairly happy with that, given that, in my few hours of research I found that most authentic Sartory's sell for something like £10,000-£15,000; so £3500 for a copy seems pretty fair. That said, I also convinced myself that mine's an original and so should be worth much more, though, as I'm sure is clear, I have no experience here ;-) Anyway, given my lack of experience, I felt it would be useful to gather some more opinions, should anyone want to offer them. Any advice would be very much appreciated! I'm also curious as to what might distinguish this bow as a copy from an original. Pictures below. Cheers and thanks in advance, Manny
