Last night I took off the fingerboard of a violin that I will varnish at Robson's Workshop. I needed to replace the fingerboard with a temporary neck board. I put this on to reduce the liklihood of warping in a light cabinet. It also provides a nice handle grip for varnishing. However, I misplaced my usual one and needed to make another. Looking through my wood stack I found a piece of Sitka spruce that I treated with ammonia some 7+ years ago when I used to do odd things like that. (I do other odd things nowadays.) Anyhow, this piece of wood had the color and consistency of a dried mush
